The idea had been percolating for a while, and when I was in my early 20s, the logo came to life. I had sketched a drawing of the logo but needed it to be made into a pretty graphic design. I talked to my artist friend, Scott Stewart of Moyo Designs, about making it 'pretty' and he made it happen.

Afro Butterflii is inspired by my mom, whom calls herself Lady Butterflii. I remember her love of butterflies from a young age, and the way metamorphosis was explained through the life of a butterfly. My mom's poetry, unconditional love, wisdom and creativity gave me space to explore and learn. Afro Butterflii represents deep gratitude for my mom, self-love, and the power of being free to wander.
