janet was one of the Keynote Speakers for Capitol Hill Days (CHD) in Washington, DC. Population Connection Action Fund organizes this gathering of folks from all over the world to "stand up for reproductive rights through hands-on advocacy training and information workshops.
aswelay was created circa 2006 while janet was working within the film & television industries. after having conversations with numerous sister-friends about the challenges of romantic relationships and workplace harassment, she thought of the editing room and the film that is thrown on the "cutting-room" floor - that film is undesirable, unwanted, unnecessary. Taking that notion, she imagined the above image to represent what women want and need which emanates from their spirit expressed through the words on the woman's body, as well as what they don't want nor need which is discarded beneath them.
